So…what exactly do you do with things that have worn out their original usefulness? Well, if you’re like us, you find ways to repurpose them in your life. Repurposing is the new recycling.
With Fall on the horizon, it’s time to rethink creative ways to get more use out of your belongings. Here are a few tips on how to reinvent your “stuff” into something new and fabulous!
~~ Those old sweaters that you don’t want to give up, but can’t really wear any longer make great new throw pillows. Simply take them to a tailor, or if you’re handy with a sewing machine, do it yourself. A standard throw pillow insert is 18” square. How great would it be to snuggle up with your favorite “sweater” while lying on the couch reading a good book?
~~ The dress or skirt that has a frazzled hem would be perfect once more if you made it just a little shorter. It could have a new life as a party dress – or go even shorter and make it a tunic! What a perfect way to go shopping in your own closet!
~~ As for those beautiful embroidered linens that you no longer use – how about edging a fabulous tablecloth with simple satin or even faux fur and draping it on your bed or sofa? Luxurious linens add a layer of warmth during the colder months.
~~ Finally, what’s better than sharing the wealth? Sometimes it’s just time to let something go. The best form of repurposing is to donate your items to others. Let that cashmere sweater keep someone else warm this winter. Donating helps others. It’s that simple. So, share the wealth and help make someone else’s life easier and more fashionable.
These are just a few simple ideas on how to get more out of things you already own. Go shopping in your own home, and find those items that have outlived their original purpose and come up with creative ways to reinvent them. Not only will you be saving them from a landfill, but you’ll be keeping your wallet happy, too!
